Migration FAQ
Overview
SNS is moving to an Solana Record Service(SRS)-based domain registry. As part of the upgrade process, existing .sol domains will transition to .sns, and eligible existing holders will receive matching new .sol domains in the new registry.
The rollout happens in three phases:
- 1
Phase 1: Transition to .sns
Existing domains will be displayed and resolved as .sns. During this phase, the current .sol name continues to work as an alias.
For example, if you own yourname.sol, it will transition to yourname.sns. While alias support is active, sending funds to yourname.sol or yourname.sns resolves to the same wallet address. Both domains will resolve to the same address.
- 2
Phase 2: The new .sol domains airdrop
Support for .sol resolution will be temporarily paused while SNS migrates to the SRS-based registry. Eligible holders will automatically receive matching upgraded .sol domains through an airdrop. During this phase, the new .sol domains may not resolve or appear in wallets, apps, or other services until they are activated in the next phase.
- 3
Phase 3: Activation of the new .sol domains
Once the community and ecosystem are ready, the new SRS-based .sol domains will be activated. They will progressively become available for transactions and display across wallets, apps, and other services as our partners update their SNS integrations.
